Romance with SASS: Suspense Angst Seductive Sizzle

March 1, 2011

Today we welcome to our pages Erotic romance author Margie Church, who lives just up the road from us in chilly Minnesota. No wonder she keeps her writing so hot!

I’m all about the SASS. My books have a strong suspense element and they’re all extremely hot. The suspense is sometimes caused by paranormal creatures, sometime a crime, and often when the characters finally make love. Whether you’re squirming because of a creep in the story or because I’ve awakened one of your favorite fantasies, my ultimate goal always is to keep you riveted to the page.

People ask me why I write erotic romance, because after all, there sure are lower heat levels you can write to. My candid reply is this: if I’ve spent pages and pages working you up, bringing you to that moment of ultimate seduction, and then skip through the love scene, aren’t you going to be pissed off? I would be. I’ve brought you to a place and made you feel like you’re right there. Why would I let you guess what happened between the sheets – or on the beach, in the back of the car, in the elevator, on the boat, or next to the open windows where anyone could see you? *wink*

My goal as an author is to create a vivid story and as a romance writer, for me that has to include detailed sex. I laugh about some of the things I’ve researched for these books. I’ll admit, some of it has enriched my own sex life. Some of it makes me roll my eyes and say

But these characters aren’t about me. I visualize the scene first – no matter what it’s about – and replay it in my mind until it “works.” I often talk through the scenes to hear dialog and that helps me check believability. Then I type it. Occasionally writing a scene gets so intense, I’ll have my eyes closed so the keyboard and screen don’t distract me. Sometimes the characters are “standing right behind me” delivering the lines and I am sweating by the time I’ve got it all down. Am I a wild and crazy woman? Well, if you find me on Facebook or Twitter you’d definitely be laughing and enjoy a good teasing every now and then. But I leave the serious seduction up to my characters.

Thanks for having me Adriana! I have been lurking here off and on for months and was so pleased to get an invitation to guest blog. Not only do we share a love of erotic romance, but I appreciate your fun-loving attitude and the chance to meet your friends and fans.

The sequel to my erotic romance, WET, is due out March 7 from Noble Romance. Since we’re talking about the SASS in books, I’d love to know what you’re reading and why it turns you on. Doesn’t have to be erotic, but what about the story really gets to you? Leave your comment and an e-mail address. You could win a copy of WET.

WET Blurb: Noah and Reagan may be divorced but their passion is far from over. For the sake of their children, they end up living together until the Navy determines Noah’s next assignment. When the rain falls one night, they get wet in more ways than one.

Content alert: M/F erotic, bondage, anal play

Excerpt: Noah awakened in an empty bed. Glancing around, he wondered where Reagan went and rose to find her. He didn’t expect to find what he discovered—his ex-wife sleeping in his bed as though she belonged there. He chewed the inside of his lower lip, wondering what the hell to do next. After all, I fell asleep on her and why should she sleep on the couch when my bed is perfectly comfortable? He came nearer and gazed at Reagan. Good thing Ava was with us and Reagan hadn’t moved her leg just a few inches higher. I wouldn’t have been able to keep my hands off her.

Reagan lay face down with her arms wrapped around his pillow. Her raised top exposed the gentle curve of her trim waist. Having two children only made her sexier. A rush of passion stirred his cock, making Noah groan to himself. You still got it bad for her, Noah. In his mind, Noah could still feel every inch of Reagan’s voluptuous curves pressed against his side and smell the vanilla-scented shampoo in her hair. So close. His erection grew. He rationalized she wanted to be in his bed or she’d have chosen the couch. She wanted to be alone or she’d have come back to her own bed with me. His ego deflated, along with his erection.

Reagan turned onto her side and put her arm over her head, giving Noah a fresh eyeful of creamy skin. Memories of kissing her taut stomach flooded his mind as if he’d done it five minutes ago. His legs seemed to move with a will of their own to the other side of the bed, and he kneeled next to her. His lips hovered an inch from the naked curve of her hip, while his brain shouted all the reasons he shouldn’t be doing this, but he couldn’t help himself. He stopped thinking. If he was making the wrong move, he’d find out in a second.

Whisper-soft, his lips swept across the skin he coveted more than his own breath. A moment later, her hand rested on the back of his head and Noah expected Reggie to yank out a handful of his hair. Instead, she stroked him, not protesting in the slightest way.

He looked up, wondering if she was fully awake. Her magnetic gaze stopped his breath.

“I found a beautiful, tempting woman in my bed. I couldn’t resist.” He leaned to kiss her, intending to stifle any protests or derail second thoughts she might have. His fingers found her nape, holding her close as their kiss deepened. Her mouth tasted sweet and hot with desire, like a hot fudge ice cream sundae.

Noah pulled back and traced the outline of Reagan’s kiss-drenched lips with the pad of his thumb. “You’re all wet,” he said.

“You have no idea.”

A strangled groan filled his throat. Noah slid his arm under Reagan’s back and kissed her again. The intensity of his passion shocked him. Being celibate for months made him horny as hell, but having Reagan in his arms sent his libido into a free-for-all. The woman ruled his dreams, his daydreams, and his wet dreams.

He nibbled her generous lips. “Are you ready to remember that some muscles are made for love? Touch me, Reagan.” Noah’s large hand covered hers and guided her to the target.

Noah’s provocative invitation made her breath stall in her lungs. Anxious to relearn the lessons, play his seductive game, she said, “Touch you how?”

His back arched when she made contact through his silk, drawstring pajama pants. A jolt of heat shot through Reagan and pooled in her already soaked pussy. She cupped his balls in their snug sac and stroked the base of his erect cock with her thumbnail. Sexual heat radiated from his powerful body and Reagan moved into his warmth.

“Maybe I should make you soaking wet, too,” she said while sliding her hand up and down the length of his thick cock. The soft fabric of his pajamas bunched under her palm, adding different dimensions to the sensations she wanted to create.

“I’m open to suggestions—all of them.”

Reagan fondled Noah’s shaft with a firmer touch. He moved to untie his pajama bottoms but Reagan brushed his hand away. “I want you as wet as I am after I fantasize about going to bed with you.”

She made love to his broad, muscular chest with her lips and tongue. The soft, curled hairs created erotic friction against her lips and Reagan smiled. Noah would experience similar friction later when she’d make him go down on her. And she would.

While teasing his nipples, a new streak of pre-cum stained his pants. Reagan broke from her lip action without stopping her hand motion. “It’s nice to know this has the same effect on you that it has on me.”

“Biting your nipples makes you want to come?”

“Not exactly. It makes me want to fuck.”

“I can help you out, no sweat.”

I am surprised that people ask you why you write erotic romance — do they mean as in, “isn’t that kind of vulgar?” That’s the response I sometimes get. Or a little wink and a “who’d have guessed it, hey?!” which I usually take to mean “you look like you spend all day in the kitchen, not the bedroom.” Charmers…

Either way, most fiction without sex is dull (to my personal tastes, lol). Long live erotica!

Hi LV! The reactions to finding out I write romance really range far and wide. Ultimately, I think the people who get disgusted about it really wish they could admit they like reading it and/or have learned a thing or two! Sure hope so.

I wholeheartedly agree, Long Live Erotica!

Hope you’ll come by and check out the rest of my books and say hello on Facebook/Twitter!

I haven’t been reading erotic romance for very long but what I have read so far has absolutely satisfied me! I just got done reading the 2nd book in Elizabeth Amber’s Lord of the Satyr series and I loved it really kept reading until the very end this was one of those book you didn’t want to put down. So Ms. Kraft and Ms. Church I think you’d really like this series if you haven’t read it already the first book is called Nicholas.

Up until maybe a few years ago I usually just read equally steamy paranormal romance, but for awhile now I’ve been alternating between paranormal and erotic romance, in both cases it’s mostly the characters and the worlds that get me going, the steamy love scenes are really just a wonderful plus! As you probably guessed I love reading any type of romance; contemporary, erotic, paranormal, historical and a month or so ago I read my first hybrid story it was a paranormal-historical romance.

As said before I love meeting new characters and reading about new worlds as well as reading about worlds I’m already somewhat familiar with, in the case of the Lord of the Satyr series I loved reading about creatures such as the satyr and the faerie, as well as reading about things that may have existed at one time or another.

Because I hope to be a writer myself one day, reading about all this just inspires and fascinates me even more! I think I’m babbling, anyway good luck with your new release Ms. Church and thanks for the giveaway!

Gabrielle, It’s always exciting to find a series and an author that resonate with you. I write what inspires me. I’ve got a paranormal series, Love Bites, that will be featured on Saturday at Noble Romance dot com. I just finished a m/m love story, I’m currently writing a really hot het romance and after that is a ghost story. So, if you enjoy the erotic element but like variety, I sure hope you’ll check out my work. Find me out on the net and say hello! Best wishes on your dreams of becoming a writer. Take some classes and most importantly, WRITE…something every day!

Wet will make you hot and wet riding it. I enjoy reading anything by Margie Church. I know not only an I going to get full bodied, three dimensional characters, but an engaging plot minus the standard romance genre conventions.

I think the thing I admire most about Margie is her authenticity. The lady is as real as her writing.
Keep doing what you do, Margie. You’re a treasure.

I love the excerpt on WET. Thank you for the description on how you write your books. I can visually picture in my mind you sitting in front of your puter working out the scenes. I always have to get an emotional connection with the characters in the stories I’m reading, and see how their interacting with one another….I guess its how I see their connection to one another *S*
Thanks for sharing your thought process when writing!

    • March 2, 2011 4:11 pm

Darcy, how nice to meet you. I’m glad you enjoyed the excerpt. I’ll let you in on a secret. I wrote this novella to practice writing hotter love scenes. I was preparing to write Dangerous Love and needed some extra heat. I hope you’ll find me on Facebook…I see you out on Twitter and am looking forward to knowing you better.

PS (Cool Avi…we have wolves where I grew up and it was my high school mascot.)

Great to meet a fellow Minnesotan! I have read a few erotic romances and enjoyed them. Truthfully the first one I read I didn’t know until I got to a sex scene and HELLO! This isn’t like my mom’s romance books.

I’ll have to put yours on the TBR!

    • March 2, 2011 9:10 pm

WET is definitely NOT your mother’s type of romance, Kari! Although my mom has read mine. LOL Please come find me outside the comfy walls of Adriana’s and say hello. I’m always looking for friends and readers.

  13. March 2, 2011 10:56 pm

    Ah, yummy! Great excerpt!

  14. March 3, 2011 1:07 am

I really have to laugh when some one ask me if I read “that stuff”….*S* I just tell them I’m not dead yet, and imagination is part of romance. If we didn’t have it life would be terribly boring and unfullfilling. I know comment on books on Facebook and Blogs, and know full well I will get flack about it from a couple of trolls who are far more vulgar than any wonderful authors anyday.
But i read these stories because they are wonderful escape to another world and if it’s hot…..well….I’m not dead yet…*S* Plus I meet many great authers, readers and very sweet people.

    • March 3, 2011 8:58 am

So true, Darcy, and who doesn’t need a break from their regular routine and go on a secret adventure every now and then. And personally, sometimes I’ve picked up some really good information 😉 in these stories. I don’t need to hear from a reader his/her sex life details but a sly wink is good.

Have a great day in your great state. I’ve been to your capital!

Its is simply breath taking seeing it from the ocean….we had the best northern light show on that trip, and I couldn’t sleep the entire time. I sat out on the deck and gazed at the night time sky in utter awe. Amazing sight, and never to be forgotten…
